Pineapple Syrup | Easy No-fuss Recipe
Pineapples are deliciously sweet and have a lot of health benefits and versatile in its usage in sweet as well as savoury dishes and hence are very easy to incorporate into one’s diet. But, the rough thick skin and the numerous eyes means, it is a laborious task to peel and clean a pineapple. This also leads to a lot of wastage of the fruit while peeling and coring it. Well, it won’t go waste anymore. Use the peels, the eyelets and the core to make pineapple syrup by extracting all the tropical goodness left in them.
How to make Pineapple Syrup
Well, the process of making this syrup is pretty straight-forward. Peel and core a whole pineapple. Diagonally slice on either side of the eyelets and extract them. Thinly slice the peel and the core and set aside. Freeze/ refrigerate the Pineapple flesh for another use like making pinacolada or curries etc.
In a saucepan, combine the peel and core and the eyelets along with a cup of water and sugar and bring to a boil over medium heat. Continue to boil until the solution thickens and reduces and turns syrupy. The syrup will thicken further as it cools. Take the saucepan off the heat. Strain the syrup and let it cool to room-temperature. Transfer to a clean air-tight container and refrigerate for upto about 2 months. You can use this as a topping for your desserts, cereals and even as a base for a refreshing summer cooler. May I suggest using it as a topping in my Pina-Falooda recipe?
Please note that while this is one method to make the syrup, you do not really need to have a whole pineapple at your disposal. You can even make this syrup by mascerating the pineapple flesh along with sugar. You can even boil pineapple juice with sugar to make the syrup.
